Don't Roll a One

I had a chance to read through the digital release of An Infinity of Ships that dropped last week. At its most reductive level, it’s a ton of random spaceship tables but they are really, really, good tables. There’s names of course, from Banksian Culture-style ships to homages to Roland musical instruments. You can roll for experimental technology, what’s in the cargo hold, gender and orientation (for the ships, not the crew), crew generators, factions, radio stations, and more. Lots of pregen/example ships, including one fully-statted for Traveller.

It’s fun, inspiring, and I think using it unfiltered would give you a default gonzo similar to MCU-in-space. There are “theme packs” to narrow things down a bit, like “grimdark” or “space horror” or “sad cowboys”. I’m glad I backed it, I’m definitely using it the next time I run some sci-fi. Or superheroes. OR possibly even fantasy.
